This illustration compares the Trappist-1 planetary system to our own solar system. Trappist-1 has seven known planets, all of which are closer to their central star than Mercury is to the Sun. The star is so much smaller, cooler, and fainter than the Sun, however, that several of the planets are in the ‘habitable zone,’ which is the region where conditions are most comfortable for life.
