Japanese lander in lunar orbit

SLIM, a Japanese Moon lander, entered lunar orbit on December 25 (Japanese time), as depicted in this illustration. The craft is scheduled to land on January 19. If successful, it would make Japan only the fifth country to land on the Moon. An American mission, Peregrine 1, is scheduled for launch on January 8, with a landing in February. Peregrine was built by a private company, but will carry several NASA experiments to the Moon. [JAXA]
