The Pleiades star cluster is one of the most beautiful and distinctive sights in the night sky. This Hubble Space Telescope shows many of the cluster’s stars, plus the faint glow of a cloud of dust that is transiting the same region of space as the Pleiades. The cluster has been an important calendar marker for many cultures, including Hawaii, where it marked the start of a new year. [NASA/ESA/AURA/Caltech/Palomar Observatory]
