The giant star cluster Messier 5 is at least 12 billion years old, making it one of the oldest structures in the Milky Way Galaxy. It contains several hundred thousand stars. M5 is in Serpens Caput, the head of the serpent. The bright star 5 Serpentis is at the lower left corner of this image. [Chuck Ayoub/Wikipedia]
