The crescent Moon rises above Earth’s horizon in this May 2024 image from the International Space Station. Although the Sun illuminates only a tiny fraction of the Moon’s disk, the rest of the disk is bathed in earthshine, which is sunlight reflected from Earth. The tiny Pleiades star cluster stands above the Moon. The Moon is a thin crescent in the early morning now, offering a good chance to see its disk illuminated by earthshine. [NASA]
