Bubbles of hot gas as big as Texas roil the surface of the Sun in this 2020 view from the Daniel K. Inouye Solar Telescope. Known as granules, the bubbles carry heat from the Sun’s interior to the surface. Millions of granules are bubbling across the surface at any moment. Granules have been seen on some other stars, including some granules that are bigger than the Sun. [NSO/AURA/NSF]
