This color-coded maps shows the strength of Earth’s magnetic field at the surface, with the field stronger in the red areas and weaker in the blue. The dark blue region is the South Atlantic Anomaly, where Earth’s radiation belts approach closest to the surface, requiring satellite operators to take special precautions.
