Early image of Mars from the InSight lander

Mars InSight beamed this image to Earth shortly after landing on the Red Planet on November 26. The image shows some of the equipment that will be placed on the Martian surface after the lander has been checked out. InSight is designed to probe the interior of Mars, revealing its structure and composition. That information should help planetary scientists learn more about the formation of all the solar system’s rocky inner planets, including Earth. [NASA/JPL]
