Lonely Star
Featured on October 1, 2014
Fomalhaut, the brightest star of Piscis Austrinus, the southern fish, scoots low across the southern horizon on autumn evenings. In early October, it's just rising in the southeast as night falls, stands due south around midnight, and sets in the wee hours of the morning. Because there are no other bright stars around it, Fomalhaut is known as "the lonely one."
