Cometary Close-Up

Wide-angle and close-up views of Comet NeoWISE

Hubble Space Telescope snapped a close-up view of the nucleus and coma of Comet NeoWISE on August 8. The image is shown in the inset, against a background photograph taken from Earth a few weeks earlier. The nucleus is only about three miles (4.8 km) in diameter, while the coma measures about 11,000 miles (18,000 km) across in the Hubble image. [NASA/ESA/STScI/Q. Zhang (Caltech)]
