Sunny Skies
Sunny Skies
A streamer of hot gas that is hundreds of thousands of miles long erupts from the surface of the Sun in this image from the SOHO spacecraft. When the Sun reaches the peak of its next magnetic cycle, around 2011 or 2012, such eruptions will be much more common. [SOHO (NASA/ESA)] For more information, see our June 22 program.
