Ring Around the Galaxy
Ring Around the Galaxy
A wide ring of up to a billion stars may encircle the disk of the Milky Way galaxy, according to two research teams. The ring is shown in this illustration, which also depicts Earth's position in the galaxy. The ring may be the scattered remains of a smaller companion galaxy that the Milky Way captured billions of years ago. [RPI/SDSS] For more information, see our March 3 radio program.
