The one constant in the Universe: StarDate magazine
How many galaxies are there in the universe?
Quite a lot. Depending on the source, the number of galaxies in the universe could be as "few" as 10 billion or as many as 100 billion. Recent discoveries of extremely faint dwarf galaxies, including one right next to the Milky Way, and the remarkable number of older galaxies detected in the Hubble Deep Field photos would seem to favor the larger of the two estimates.
