Saturn Looms Large

October 18, 2012 Saturn and its rings loom large in this recent image from the Cassini spacecraft, which is orbiting the giant planet. The rings, which are backlit by the Sun in this view, cast dark shadows on Saturn's southern hemisphere. Cassini was rough 1.5 million miles (2.4 million km) from Saturn when it took the picture, on October 2. [NASA/JPL/SSI]
