Although this looks like a fried chicken leg, it's actually Comet Hartley-2 as seen by the Deep Impact spacecraft. The craft flew within 435 miles (700 km) of the comet on November 4. The bright rays are "jets" of gas released into space as ice at the comet's surface vaporizes. [NASA/JPL/UMD]
