Closing In
Comet Hartley-2 looms in the field of view of the Deep Impact spacecraft, which is headed toward a November 4 encounter with the comet. This view was snapped November 1, from a range of 2.1 million miles (3.4 million km). At its closest, Deep Impact will pass less than 500 miles (800 km) from the comet's icy nucleus.
