Universo Background
Universo is the Spanish-language version of StarDate. Our
research shows that it is now the most widely aired
Spanish-language science program on radio. It airs on more than
150 stations in the United States, Puerto Rico, Mexico, and
several other countries.
Universo places a special emphasis on the work of Hispanic
astronomers in the United States and elsewhere, and on the rich
starlore and sky observations of Mesoamerican cultures, with
particular emphasis on the Maya, Aztecs, and Inca.
With grant funding from the National Science Foundation, Universo
first aired on April 1, 1995. Additional funding is provided by
the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and the Texas
Space Grant Consortium.
